She will succeed Edward Luck of the United States, who left the position in June 2012, and to whom the Secretary-General is deeply grateful.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following consultation with Member States, announced today the appointment of Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka of South Africa as Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN-Women). Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka replaces Michelle Bachelet.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of David Gressly of the United States as his Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), where he will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon confirmed the appointment of Jean-Paul Laborde (France) as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) at the Assistant Secretary-General level, following the concurrence of the Security Council. He will succeed Mike Smith (Australia), to whom the Secretary-General is deeply grateful for his dedication and able leadership.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, have appointed Joseph Mutaboba of Rwanda as African Union and United Nations Deputy Joint Special Representative and Deputy Head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).
