SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN KOSOVO


Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of Gary L. Matthews of the United States as his Principal Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).  Mr. Matthews will replace Jock Covey, who had served in the same position since the middle of 1999.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW SPECIAL ADVISER FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING


      Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of Michael Doyle of the United States as Special Adviser in his Executive Office. 


Mr. Doyle will concentrate on policy analysis and strategic planning.  He will hold the rank of Assistant Secretary-General and will take up his duties on

2 April 2001.

On 30 November, the Secretary-General appointed Amara Essy, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Côte d'Ivoire and President of the forty-ninth session of the General Assembly, as his Special Envoy to the Central African Republic and the Republic of Congo.
