Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Deadly Attack on Somalia Airport

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack on Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport area on 11 January, which resulted in the death of a member of the Ugandan United Nations Guard Unit at the United Nations Compound.

He expresses his deep condolences to the family and colleagues of the victim and to the Government and people of Uganda.

The Secretary-General recalls that attacks against United Nations personnel and premises are prohibited under international law.

The Secretary-General expresses the full solidarity and support of the United Nations to the Government and people of Somalia in their fight against terrorism and reaffirms the Organization’s commitment to supporting them on their journey towards a stable, secure and prosperous country.
