New Permanent Representative of Slovakia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations, Peter Hulényi, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hulényi served as Director General of the Directorate for multilateral organizations at his country’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs from 2023.

In 2019, he was appointed as Director of the Ministry’s UN Department, having served as Ambassador to Israel since 2015.

He also took up several key posts within the Ministry, including Director of the Development Assistance and Humanitarian Aid Department from 2012 to 2015 and Director of the Diplomatic Academy from 2011 to 2012.

In 2006, Mr. Hulényi became Deputy Head of Slovakia’s Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna — an assignment that continued until 2011.

He headed the International Economic Cooperation Department as Director from 2004 to 2005 and was seconded to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from 2002 to 2003 to help create the SlovakAid System. Between 1998 and 2002, he was posted in Canada as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Slovakia in Ottawa.

He joined Slovakia’s foreign service in 1995 as Deputy Director of the International Economic Cooperation Department.

Mr. Hulényi obtained a master’s degree in automatic control systems from the Slovak Technical University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Comenius University, Bratislava.
