Funding Women’s Organizations Means ‘You Are Investing in Global Peace and Security’, Secretary-General Tells Global Summit

Following is the text of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ video message for the high-level pledging event of the Invest-In-Women Global Summit, in New York today:

I send my warmest greetings to the Invest-In-Women Summit of the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund.

Women bear the brunt of crises, but they are also key to solving them.  Women-led organizations have a strong record of responding to humanitarian emergencies; brokering peace processes; combating gender-based violence; and protecting and promoting human rights.

But funding for women’s organizations in humanitarian crises has decreased for two years in a row.  We must reverse this alarming trend.  That is why I support the Invest-In-Women campaign.  And I reiterate my call to raise $300 million for women’s organizations in crisis situations by the end of 2025.

The Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund is providing support to local groups from Ukraine to Afghanistan, Haiti and Sudan.  I thank donors for their pledges and urge others to contribute.  By investing in women, you are investing in global peace and security.  Let us stand together with women working to build a better future for all.  Thank you.
