New Permanent Representative of Romania Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations, Cornel Feruţă, presented his credentials to Secretary-General António Guterres today.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Feruţă served as State Secretary for Global Affairs and Diplomatic Strategies, beginning in 2020. He has also held several positions within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since 2013, including Assistant Director General, Chief Coordinator and, in 2019, served as the body’s acting Director General.
From 2012 to 2013, he served as Director General for Political Affairs and Political Director in the Romanian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and, in 2012, was the Romanian Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff. He served as Romania’s Ambassador and Resident Representative to IAEA, the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna from 2007 to 2012. From 2005 to 2007, he was the Chief of Staff for the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Romania. In 2004, he was the Director of the Western Balkans and Regional Cooperation Division in that Ministry.
Mr. Feruţă holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Master of Arts in international relations from Bucharest University in Romania.
