Secretary-General Sends Condolences over Devastation Caused by Mexico Earthquake

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

The Secretary-General is saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake that struck the provinces of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco in Mexico.

The Secretary-General sends his condolences to the Government and people of Mexico.  He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.  He commends the authorities and emergency responders, who are sparing no efforts to assist people in need and restore essential services.

The United Nations stands ready to provide support, should it be requested.
