New Permanent Representative of Seychelles Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the United Nations, Ronald Jumeau, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

The appointment was Mr. Jumeau’s second, having previously served as Permanent Representative in New York between 2007 and 2012, and concurrently as Ambassador to the United States, Canada, Brazil, Cuba and other Caribbean nations.  Since 2012, he has been Seychelles’ New York-based roving Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues.

Having begun his career as a journalist, he became Chief Editor of the daily Seychelles Nation newspaper, before his appointment in 1992 as Secretary to the Cabinet in the Office of the President.  Mr. Jumeau later served in a number of ministerial-level positions, including Minister for Environment and Natural Resources between 2004 and 2007, Minister for Environment from 2001 to 2003, Minister for Culture and Education from 2000 to 2001 and Minister for Agriculture and Marine Resources from 1998 to 1999.

Born on 24 January 1957, Mr. Jumeau has one child.
