Brian G Bowler of Malawi Chair of Fourth Committee
Brian G. Bowler, Permanent Representative of Malawi to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) on 15 June 2015. (See Press Release GA/11654.)
Before his appointment as Permanent Representative in 2014, Mr. Bowler previously held the position between 2010 and 2012. Prior to that, he was Malawi’s High Commissioner to India from 2008 to 2010, and Ambassador to Belgium from 2004 to 2007. During the latter period, he was also accredited to the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland and France, as well as to the European Commission, African Caribbean Pacific Organization, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, World Trade Organization, World Food Programme and the International Court of Justice.
Additionally, Mr. Bowler has represented his country at numerous international conferences and meetings during his extensive service in both the private and public sectors.
He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Royal School of Science, Cranfield, in the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Shrivenham, also in that country.
Born on 27 November 1964 in Blantyre, Malawi, Mr. Bowler is married and has two children.
