United Nations Academic Impact, Council on Foreign Relations to Host

 

Discussion on Hydraulic Fracturing, or ‘Fracking’, 16 July

 

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in partnership with the United States-based Council on Foreign Relations, will host a discussion on fracking on 16 July at 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 4 of the North Lawn Building.

This is being held as part on the ongoing UNAI series, CFR@UNAI, which brings experts from the Council on Foreign Relations to United Nations Headquarters, where they address visiting students, teachers and other guests on issues of current interest.

The conversation will be led by Michael A. Levi, David M. Rubenstein Senior Fellow for Energy and the Environment and Director of the Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.  He will be joined by Elizabeth Thompson, Senior Adviser, Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All Initiative and a former Minister for Energy and Environment of Barbados.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, has led to a boom in United States oil and gas production.  What does this boom mean for economies, international security, and the environment?  And how far will it spread?  These are some of the questions to be discussed at the forum.  It is open to all, but seats are limited.  Those interested in attending are requested to register at unaifracking.eventbrite.com/.
