New Permanent Representative of Dominican Republic Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, Francisco Cortorreal, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki‑moon today.

Until his appointment, Mr. Cortorreal had served as Alternative Ambassador to the United Nations since 2004.

As well, Mr. Cortorreal was President of the New York City branch of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana and an elected member of its Central Committee since 2005. 

Before joining the Foreign Service in 2004, he began a career in the New York City Department of Education in 1991, having moved to the city in 1990 to become the Director of the Dominican Republic’s Casa de la Cultura.  Before his relocation, Mr. Cortorreal was an economist at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic in 1990, and taught macroeconomics and national accounting at the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago-UTESA from 1987 to 1990.

Between 1987 and 1990, he was the Senior Economical Analyst at the National Planning Office of the Dominican Republic in several departments, including those of Economic and Social Planning.

Mr. Cortorreal holds Master of Science degrees in administration and supervision and in education, respectively from Fordham University and the City College of New York (1996), both in the United States.  He also earned a Master of Science in national economic planning and a Bachelor of Arts in economy from the State University of Kharkov in Ukraine.
