Secretary-General Designated for 10-Year Review Conference on Implementation
of Almaty Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has designated Gyan Chandra Acharya, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States as the Secretary-General of the 10-year Review Conference on the Implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries. Mr. Acharya will also serve as the United Nations system-wide focal point for the preparatory review process.
The General Assembly in its resolution 66/214 of 22 December 2011 decided to hold a comprehensive 10-year review conference of the Almaty Programme of Action in 2014, in accordance with paragraph 49 of the Almaty Programme of Action and paragraph 32 of the Declaration on the midterm review. The Conference will mobilize international commitment and achieve broad consensus on a comprehensive development agenda for landlocked developing countries for the new decade.
