Marking World Vision Korea’s Sixtieth Anniversary, Secretary-General Praises
Organization’s Tireless Development Work, Support for Millennium Goals
Following is UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message marking the sixtieth anniversary of World Vision Korea, today, 11 October:
Distinguished leaders of World Vision Korea, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to congratulate World Vision Korea on its sixtieth anniversary.
Since its origins providing care for widows and orphans, World Vision has played an active and valuable role on the Korean peninsula. I commend the organization’s many achievements.
Today, World Vision Korea is one of the top World Vision partnerships in terms of the number of children sponsored. This demonstrates the goodwill of many Koreans, who extend helping hands to people around the world through World Vision.
As a partner of the United Nations in many countries, World Vision has worked tirelessly to save lives and bring hope to people through development assistance and emergency relief.
I also commend World Vision Korea’s support for the Millennium Development Goals. You have made significant contributions towards reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, and combating AIDS, malaria and other diseases. And you have forged the kinds of partnerships — including with NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and the private sector — that we need to succeed.
Thank you for your commitment to this great cause, and congratulations on this anniversary. May World Vision Korea continue its important work for many decades to come.
