Secretary-General Congratulates People of Kenya for Passing New Constitution, Says

 

UN Will Continue to Support Efforts to Further Reconciliation, Development

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


The Secretary-General congratulates the people of Kenya for the passing of the new Constitution, a major milestone in addressing the country’s long-term challenges.


The Secretary-General wishes to also congratulate all who helped to make this an inclusive, peaceful and well-organized process.  The United Nations was pleased to provide assistance to the electoral authorities and to support national conflict-prevention efforts involving national leaders, institutions and civil society.


The United Nations will continue to support the Kenyan Government and people in their efforts to further reconciliation, accelerate development and strengthen democratic institutions and governance in their country.
