New Permanent Observer of Holy See Presents Letter of Appointment

The new Permanent Observer for the Holy See to the United Nations, Francis Assisi Chullikatt, presented his letter of appointment today to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1988. Prior to assuming his current position, he served in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Honduras, in various countries of Southern Africa, in the Philippines, at the United Nations in New York, and finally in the Secretariat of State in the Vatican.
Appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan and Titular Archbishop of Ostra in April 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI, he chose as his episcopal motto “Fidei in Virtute”, which means “by the power of faith”.
He received a doctorate in canon law and is a native of Bolghatty, India. He was born in 1953.
