ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS COMMITTEE EXAMINES WORKING METHODS

19951128 GENEVA, 24 November (United Nations Information Service) -- The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights which deals with implementation of the Convention on those rights, held a brief public meeting this afternoon to discuss its method of work.

The Committee particularly examined the follow-up to the visit made by one of its members to Panama. Philippe Texier, expert from France, had visited the country to observe alleged violation of the right to housing. He underlined, however, the spirit of cooperation demonstrated by the Government. The Committee further examined information received from a non- governmental organization concerning Panama. It decided to follow up on the matter in the future.
