NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF FIJI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19951020 Biographical NotePoseci Waqalevu Bune, new Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
Before his present appointment, Mr. Bune was Permanent Secretary to Government and for the Public Service of Fiji, a post he held since January 1990. During that time he also served as his country's Permanent Secretary for Tourism (since June 1992), Permanent Secretary for Health (since June 1963), Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation (since March 1994), and Secretary for the Public Service (since December 1994).
Mr. Bune, who joined the Fiji Public Service Department in 1966, was appointed Senior Administrative Officer in that department in November 1972. From July to August 1973, he was attached to the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
In September 1973, Mr. Bune joined the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in New York, and in May of the following year was appointed Mission First Secretary. He served on his country's delegation to the twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth sessions of the General Assembly, as well as to the fifty-sixth session of the Economic and Social Council and to the World Conference of Population in Bucharest.
From 1976 to 1980, Mr. Bune was Counsellor, Fiji Mission to the European Economic Community (EEC), serving on the Fiji delegation to several joint Ministerial conferences of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group and the EEC, including the ACP/EEC Ministerial Negotiations on the Second Lome Convention and the Geneva World Conference to combat racism and racial discrimination.
From July 1981 to September 1985, Mr. Bune was Western Divisional Commissioner in his country's Ministry of Rural Development. Between October 1985 and August 1987 he was Fiji's Ambassador to the European Community and

Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, France and Italy. Appointed Permanent Secretary for the Public Service in September 1987, he was a member of Fiji's delegation to annual sessions of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in 1988 and 1990.
Educated at Fiji's Queen Victoria School, Mr. Bune also attended the Royal College of Public Administration, London, from April to August, 1970, Foreign Service courses in Canberra, Australia, and French-language courses at Dakar University, Senegal.
