SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS WITH PRESIDENTS OF CAMEROON AND MOZAMBIQUE

Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali met yesterday, 23 October, with the Presidents of Cameroon and Mozambique at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

In his meeting with President Paul Biya of Cameroon, the Secretary- General congratulated him for the selection of Yaounde as the next venue for the Organization of African Unity (OAU) summit.

At 6:30 p.m. today, the Secretary-General received the President of Guatemala, Ramiro de Leon Carpio.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

The Secretary-General at 4.30 p.m. today received the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni L. Rabuka. The Secretary-General thanked him for his presence in New York to attend the special commemorative meeting of the General Assembly marking the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations. He also expressed his appreciation for Fiji's contribution to peace-keeping operations.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

 

At approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, 22 October, the Secretary-General met with President William J. Clinton of the United States. They had a broad exchange of views on world issues, including the situations in Haiti, Angola, Guatemala, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Liberia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the former Yugoslavia, expressing the hope that a peaceful settlement would soon be found in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
