SECRETARY-GENERAL EXTENDS CONDOLENCES ON DEATH OF GOVAN MBEKI


Following is the text of a statement issued in Durban, South Africa, today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


The Secretary-General, with sadness, learned this morning of the death of Govan Mbeki, the father of President Thabo Mbeki, who himself was a leading figure in the African National Congress.

TO FACILITATE TALKS, 27-30 AUGUST


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


Mr. Razali Ismail, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Myanmar, will visit Yangon from 27 to 30 August 2001 to help facilitate the talks between the Government and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for democratization and national reconciliation in Myanmar.
