In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the new Chairmen of the United Nations security bodies for August:
Security Council
Martin Andjaba (Namibia) succeeds Hasmy Agam (Malaysia) as President of the Security Council.
Military Staff Committee
Resolution 1254 (1999) Adopted Unanimously
The Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for six months until 31 January 2000.
The Security Council this morning recommended to the General Assembly that the Kingdom of Tonga be admitted to membership of the United Nations, which will bring the Organization's total membership to 188.
The Security Council this morning referred the application of the Kingdom of Tonga for admission to membership in the United Nations to its Committee on Admission of New Members for examination and report.
