The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Oh Joon (Republic of Korea):

Consolidated efforts by national and international stakeholders in Guinea-Bissau had contributed to a peaceful electoral process, including a violence-free campaign period and a calm and orderly election day, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in that country told the Security Council today.

On 16 May 2014, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with strikethrough and underline in the entries below to its List (the 1988 List) of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2082 (2012) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Owing to certain political interests and the inability of some leaders to compromise, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina continued to deteriorate, thereby impeding the country’s progress towards European integration, the High Representative in the country told the Security Council today.

Calling the transformation of the stand-alone United Nations political presence in Burundi into a country team a “historic moment”, the Organization’s senior official there said today that the transition was well under way.

On 14 May 2014, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with underline and strikethrough in the entries below on its Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2083 (2012) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Taking up the situation in the Middle East, the Security Council today heard the first report on the work of its 2140 Committee on Yemen, established in February to support a peaceful, orderly and inclusive political transition in that country.

Despite the Libyan people’s strong determination to consolidate their freedom and build a modern democratic State, their country continued to face serious security challenges and a deep political crisis, the International Criminal Court’s top prosecutor told the Security Council today.
