While Somalia has maintained a positive trajectory — marked by a “far‑reaching” reform agenda and expanded domestic revenues — ongoing political turbulence could throw it off course, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for that country warned the Security Council today.
José Singer (Dominican Republic) said at a Headquarters press conference today that his country’s January presidency of the Security Council will be guided by the United Nations principles of peace, social justice and the rule of law, as it assumes its two-year non-permanent membership.
The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan remains deeply concerned about the impact of the armed conflict on children in South Sudan, as reported on by its Panel of Experts (document S/2018/1049).

The Security Council today decided that no further adjustments were necessary at this time to targeted measures specified in resolution 2368 (2017) against individuals and entities included on the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh) and Al-Qaida sanctions list.
