PRESS STATEMENT BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT ON BURUNDI


Following is the statement to the press on Burundi issued on 7 December by Security Council President Moctar Ouane (Mali):


The members of the Security Council condemn in the strongest terms the unjustifiable attacks launched by the rebels since the Transitional Government came into office.  They also express their serious concern over reports of abductions of children in the past few weeks.

PRESS STATEMENT ON AFGHANISTAN AGREEMENT BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT


The following statement on the Afghanistan agreement was issued today to the press by the President of the Security Council, Moctar Ouane (Mali):


The Security Council, in the presence of the Secretary-General, heard a briefing by Sir Kieran Prendergast on the agreement concluded today in Bonn on the interim Government in Afghanistan.

SECURITY COUNCIL HOLDS INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH OFFICIALS

OF TRIBUNALS FOR RWANDA, FORMER YUGOSLAVIA


The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda might not complete the trials of current detainees before the year 2007 if its present capacity of nine judges remained unchanged, Judge Navanethem Pillay, the Tribunal's President, told the Security Council this morning.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS MINURSO MANDATE UNTIL 28 FEBRUARY 2002


In a unanimous decision this morning, the Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until 28 February 2002.
