Following is UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, to the Counter-Terrorism Committee open briefing concerning “New Initiatives to Address the Foreign Terrorist Fighters Challenge”, in New York today:

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, together with Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Uzbekistan in the evening on Thursday, 11 June.

United nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, shortly before midnight on Tuesday, 9 June, from Tajikistan.  Kazakhstan was the second stop of his visit to the Central Asian nations.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Germany on Sunday morning, 7 June.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Turkmenistan, the last leg of his five-country visit to Central Asia, shortly after midnight on Saturday, 13 June.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived late in the evening on Wednesday, 10 June, in Kyrgyzstan, the third stop in his five-country visit to Central Asia.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, 9 June, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, the first stop on his visit to five Central Asian countries.
