Following is the text of UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ address at Cairo University, “Facing Global Challenges, Finding Hope in Youth”, in Cairo today:

The popular Smurfs characters are encouraging children, young people and adults to make the world happier, more peaceful, equitable and healthy with a campaign launched today by the United Nations, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Foundation.

At least 32 United Nations and associated personnel were killed in the line of duty over the course of 2016, according to the Standing Committee for the Security and Independence of the International Civil Service of the United Nations Staff Union.
