19951101 Speakers Address Roles of Security Council, International Criminal Court; Possible Conflict Between International, National Jurisdiction also AddressedThe proposed international criminal court should be an independent institution with inherent jurisdiction over serious international crimes, the Sixth Committee (Legal) was told this afternoon.
In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 November:
SECURITY COUNCIL
Salim Mohammed Al'Khussaiby (Oman) will succeed Ibrahim A. Gambari (Nigeria) as President of the Security Council.
MILITARY STAFF COMMITTEE
Major-General Zhou Jiang (China) will succeed Lieutenant-General Wesley Kanne Clark (United States) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
