Members of the Administrative Tribunal of the United Nations should be required to have appropriate legal qualifications and should serve for longer terms, the Sixth Committee (Legal) was told this afternoon as it met to review the Statute of the Tribunal.

BUENOS AIRES, 6 November (UNFCCC) -- People around the world can follow this year's ministerial conference on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol in real time simply by logging on to the Internet.
Much remained to be done to instill a sense of accountability among staff members, the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) was told this morning as it commenced its consideration of the activities of the Office of Internal Oversight Services.
The General Assembly this morning proclaimed the Year 2002 as the International Year of Mountains, by adopting without a vote, a draft resolution recommended by the Economic and Social Council.
