SECRETARY-GENERAL'S ACTIVITIES IN ITALY 2-3 JUNE

19990604 At the invitation of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, the Secretary-General travelled to Rome to meet with the Pope, in order to assess the situation in the Balkans and the prospects for resolving the crisis and building peace in the region.

The Secretary-General travelled on Tuesday evening, 2 June.

ICJ REJECTS YUGOSLAVIA'S REQUEST FOR ORDER TO HALT USE OF FORCE BY NETHERLANDS, REMAINS SEIZED OF CASE

THE HAGUE, 2 June (ICJ) -- Today, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rejected the request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) in the case concerning Legality of Use of Force (Yugoslavia v. Netherlands). The decision was taken by eleven votes to four.
