Concluding Work for Resumed 54th Session, Committee Approves 27 Draft Resolutions and Eight Draft Decisions; UNIFIL Draft Put to Vote
The Security Council this afternoon requested the Secretary-General to establish for a period of six months an expert panel on the illegal exploitation of natural resources and other forms of wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which should produce recommendations on the matter.
In its closing meeting this afternoon, the Commission on the Status of Women acting as the Preparatory Committee for the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly on follow-up to 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women transmitted the text of a proposed outcome document to the Assembly.
The Preparatory Committee laying the groundwork for a high-level conference on financing for development this afternoon concluded its first substantive session, agreeing to a substantive preliminary agenda, covering among others, capital flows, external debt, trade and aid.
The Preparatory Committee for the Special Session of the General Assembly in 2001 for Follow-up to the World Summit for Children met this morning to conclude its first substantive session. As it did so, it adopted a report on its work for the four-day session.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Marie Heuzé as the Director of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva. She will take up her duties on 5 June.
