COUNCIL EXTENDS UN PREVLAKA MANDATE FOR SIX MONTHS


Unanimously Adopts Resolution 1335 (2001)


The Security Council this afternoon authorized United Nations military observers in Prevlaka to continue monitoring the demilitarization of the Prevlaka peninsula -- a strategic area disputed by Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia -- for a further six months until 15 July.

SECURITY COUNCIL STATEMENT REAFFIRMS COUNCIL’S COMMITMENT TO PEACE IN SOMALIA


The Security Council this afternoon reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the situation on Somalia, consistent with United Nations Charter principles and with respect for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity.

DEPLETED URANIUM SITES IN KOSOVO DETAILED BY UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME


GENEVA/NAIROBI, 11 January (UNEP) -– Full details of the sites where

depleted uranium (DU) weapons were deployed in Kosovo and inspected by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) scientists were unveiled at a press conference in Geneva today.
