STATES PARTIES TO LAW OF SEA CONVENTION ELECT SEVEN NEW JUDGES


TO INTERNATIONAL SEA TRIBUNAL


In two meetings today, the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea elected seven new judges to the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea for nine-year terms, beginning 1 October.

AS CURRENCY OF REFERENCE FOR INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL


In a brief meeting this morning, the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea were urged to support the euro as the currency of reference for the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SEALS AGREEMENT TO IMPROVE


UN ASSISTANCE TO INTERNALLY DISPLACED


NEW YORK, 18 April (OCHA) -- The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Kenzo Oshima, and the Representative of the Secretary-General on Internally Displaced Persons, Francis Deng, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 17 April to improve United Nations efforts to respond to the severe crisis of internal displacement around the world.
