The Security Council would hold two open debates this month, one on the United Nations Charter and the other on post-conflict peacebuilding and review of the peacebuilding architecture, the 15-member body’s President for February said today at a Headquarters press conference.
The protection of civilians and current tensions stemming from the situation in Syria would be among the priorities of the Security Council in January, the Permanent Representative of Uruguay, President of the 15-member body for the month, said today at a Headquarters press conference.

Following is a transcript of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s press conference, held in New York today:
Addressing the humanitarian situations in Syria and Yemen, as well as ongoing violence in South Sudan and the Central African Republic, would be among the top priorities of the Security Council in December, the Permanent Representative of the United States, President of the 15-member body for the month, said today at a Headquarters press conference.
At a press conference at Headquarters today, the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom, whose delegation holds the presidency of the Security Council for November, said that he hoped that his efforts would be noted for being transparent, interactive and action-oriented.
In October, the Security Council would focus on a range of issues, from the women, peace and security agenda, to the fight against terrorism, to humanitarian crises around the world, the Permanent Representative of Spain said today at a Headquarters press conference. Among his country’s priorities for October were also the Council’s methods of work and the situation in the Middle East.
