Chairman Stresses Committees 'Obligation' to NGO Community
Serious concern was raised in the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) this afternoon, as several delegations criticized NGOs that either disregarded the withdrawal of their consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, or else violated that status.
As it neared the end of its resumed 1999 session, the Committee on Non- Governmental Organizations this morning took decisions on applications for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, and took note of 39 quadrennial reports submitted by groups already enjoying consultative status.
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, a standing body of the Economic and Social Council, this afternoon concluded its two-week resumed 1999 session, during which it considered the applications and reports of more than 100 civil society groups.
