The States parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea opened their nineteenth meeting todaywith a call for universal accession to that treaty, adoption of a provisional agenda and election of its Bureau.

If the Central African Republic was to build on the momentum created by the national political dialogue held in late 2008 and to overcome threats posed by sporadic rebel violence in its northern villages, the United Nations top political official today told the Security Council that the country must take ownership of and fully implement its recently adopted peacebuilding framework, which covered key priorities such as security, disarmament, good governance and development.

Headquarters to Host Sixth Annual Youth Assembly as Global Model United Nations Conference Convenes in Geneva, 5-7 August

The Department of Public Information has embarked on two new youth-related projects which will culminate in separate but simultaneous events, with the Global Model United Nations Conference convening from 5-7 August in Geneva, Switzerland, and the Youth Assembly at the United Nations taking place at New York Headquarters.

Security Council Extends Force Monitoring Israel-Syria Ceasefire until 30 December 2009, Unanimously Adopting Resolution 1875 (2009)
