Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee Approves Deletion of Eight Entries from Consolidated List

On 27 July 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee approved the deletion (de-listing) of the eight entries specified below from its Consolidated List. The Committee approved these de-listings following its review of the names, as called for in paragraph 25 of Security Council resolution 1822 (2008). The assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) therefore no longer apply to the following entities:

By a vote of 122 in favour to none against, with 41 abstentions, the General Assembly today adopted, as orally revised, a resolution calling on States and international organizations to provide financial resources, build capacity and transfer technology, particularly to developing countries, in scaling up efforts to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all.

On 29 July 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee approved the deletion (de-listing) of the five entries specified below from its Consolidated List. The Committee approved these de-listings following its review of the names, as called for in paragraph 25 of Security Council resolution 1822 (2008). Renewing Mandate of African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, Security Council Demands End to Fighting, Attacks on Peacekeepers, Civilians

The Security Council this morning renewed the mandate of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) for 12 months while demanding that the parties to the conflict in the region immediately end the fighting as well as attacks on civilians, peacekeepers and humanitarian personnel. Unanimously adopting resolution 1935 (2010), the Council extended the mandate until 31 July 2011, requesting UNAMID to develop a strategy to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian access.

Activities of Secretary-General in Lebanon, 13-15 January

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Beirut on the afternoon of Friday, 13 January, after an overnight flight from New York and a transfer in Paris. The main aims of the trip were to attend a high-level United Nations meeting on Reform and Transitions to Democracy, visit staff of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and hold bilateral meetings with Lebanese leaders.
