SECURITY COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ON SITUATION IN CHAD,

 

CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, SUBREGION


The following Security Council press statement on the situation in Chad, the Central African Republic and the subregion was read out today by Council President Dumisani S. Kumalo (South Africa):

Ad Hoc Committee Negotiating Comprehensive Anti-Terrorism Convention Opens 2009 Session at Headquarters

With the prevailing view that the scope and intensity of terrorist acts in ever new forms transcended the ability of unilateral actions to deter them, and the hope that a comprehensive global convention would fundamentally bolster the existing counter-terrorism regime, the Ad Hoc Committee established by General Assembly resolution 51/210 opened its thirteenth session today amid pledges by delegates to hammer out the differences dogging the treaty’s text.

Under-Secretary-General, Briefing Security Council, Commends Recent Steps by Eritrea, Djibouti to Negotiate Settlement of 2008 Border Dispute

Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe today commended recent steps by the Governments of Eritrea and Djibouti to negotiate a settlement, with Qatar acting as mediator, to the border dispute between them, which erupted into conflict in March 2008.
