Amid growing global tensions and turmoil, fostering neighbourly relations was vital to national development and prosperity and in keeping with the “surge of democracy” spreading throughout the world, the General Assembly heard today as debate continued into the weekend.

Lifesaving aid continued to reach millions in Syria, but funding was running low and intense, multiparty fighting continued to imperil delivery, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator told the Security Council this morning.

On 29 September 2014, the United Nations-African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security held its ninth consultative meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the margins of the sixty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
