Revised Guidelines, Key Achievements Highlighted by Chair of United Nations International Trade Law Body, as Sixth Committee Considers Report

The provisional approval of the draft revised Notes on Organizing Arbitral Proceedings and parts of a model law on secured transactions were among key achievements during the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law’s (UNCITRAL) forty-eighth session, said its Chair as he presented that Commission’s report to the Sixth Committee (Legal) today.

On 9 October, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2140 (2014) was briefed by the Panel of Experts on international humanitarian law and finance aspects of its mandate.  The Committee also held an exchange on the briefing and recommendations by the Panel of Experts.

Fourth Committee Approves Draft Resolution Requesting Expanded Services of University for Peace in Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding

Prior to opening its annual debate on outer space issues today, the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) unanimously approved a draft resolution on the University for Peace, by which the General Assembly would request the Secretary-General to expand the scope for using that institution’s services as part of his conflict-resolution and peacebuilding efforts.

Gabarrón Art Installation Will Be Unveiled in Central Park on United Nations Day, 24 October

In celebration of the seventieth anniversary of the United Nations, a monumental art installation entitled Enlightened Universe will be unveiled on Saturday, 24 October, at 4:30 p.m. at the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.  The installation — created by Spanish artist Cristóbal Gabarrón — is presented by The Gabarron Foundation in partnership with the United Nations.
