Concluding Review of International Law Commission Report, Legal Committee Approves Draft Texts on International Trade Law Body, Programme of Assistance

After concluding deliberations on the third and final cluster of topics in the report of the International Law Commission, the Sixth Committee (Legal) today approved without a vote two draft resolutions, the first on the report of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the second on the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law.

Secretary-General Nominates Filippo Grandi of Italy United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following consultations with the Chairs of the regional groups of Member States, today informed the General Assembly of his intention to appoint Filippo Grandi of Italy as the new United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The Secretary-General, meeting with Saudi King Salman, urged cooperation with the special envoys on Syria and Yemen.  He expressed hope that the next Vienna meeting on Syria would devise a clear set of next steps and on Yemen, that extreme care would be taken not to harm civilians and that talks would take place this month.
