The United Nations must reform its development system by adapting its silo structure to work flexibly across sectors, tailoring programmes to specific country priorities and diversifying its funding sources in order to meet the unprecedented multisectoral demands of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, delegates stressed today, as the Economic and Social Council opened its 2016 operational activities segment.

NEW YORK, 22 February 2016 (Joint Investigative Mechanism) — The Security Council considered the first report by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons-United Nations (OPCW)-United Nations Joint Investigative Mechanism this morning, pursuant to resolution 2235 (2015).

The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the people and Government of Fiji who have been affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.  The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says that according to national authorities, 21 people have been confirmed dead and four people are currently missing.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its thirty-third session from 17 to 19 February at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  The session was presided over by the Chair, J. Christopher Mihm.  All the other members of the IAAC, namely Maria Gracia M. Pulido Tan (Vice-Chair), Patricia X. Arriagada Villouta, Natalia A.
