Colombia, Armed Group Determined to Successfully Implement Peace Accord, Head of United Nations Mission Tells Security Council

Despite a host of challenges, the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) remained determined to ensure the successful implementation of the new peace agreement, the Head of the United Nations Mission in Colombia told the Security Council today.

The Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations briefed the Security Council today saying that the 31 December 2016 agreement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo had contributed to defusing tensions there.  However, he noted that major efforts would need to be made to ensure all parties follow and implement the agreement.
