In Nigeria, the United Nations and business leaders are launching a joint humanitarian initiative.  Several private Nigerian companies will join the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund and contribute money and expertise to expand the aid response in the country’s north-east, where a major crisis has affected millions of families.

United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday, 13 February, where he was to speak at the opening session of the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq the following day.  He was received at the airport by Abdullah al Matouq, Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization.

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced today that it would cut food rations by 30 per cent for the 420,000 refugees living in Dadaab and Kakuma camps in northern Kenya due to insufficient funding.  WFP urgently needs $28.5 million to adequately cover the food assistance needs for the refugees over the next six months.
