Drought Affects 37 Million People
TEHRAN-GENEVA-NEW YORK, 22 August (UN Information Service) -- The findings of a technical mission that assessed the devastating consequences of the drought situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran was made public in Tehran today by the United Nations.
GENEVA, 25 July (OCHA) -- The United Nations 2000 World Disaster Reduction Campaign, developed by the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), will be conducted world wide from August to October 2000 around the theme of the mobilization of youth towards a global culture of prevention, through appropriate education.
GENEVA, 4 July (OCHA) -- Against the background of a promising peace process in the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville), an international meeting will be convened in Geneva on 6 July to call for immediate support to the transition process and to the restoration of security and stability in the country.

NEW YORK/GENEVA, 7 June (OCHA) -- The United Nations is appealing for $377.7 million to address the immediate needs of 13.4 million people affected by the drought in the Horn of Africa. Three consecutive years of poor rains and crop failures have exhausted the coping mechanisms of populations in the region.
A seminar entitled Agenda for the Oslo Guidelines, on military and civil defence assets in response to natural disasters and complex emergencies, will be held in Brussels at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters on 18 and 19 May.
