HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS OFFICE CONTINUES SECURITY ASSESSMENTS IN LIBERIA


NEW YORK, 11 November (OCHA) -- Over the weekend, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Liberia fielded an inter-agency security and protection mission to assess the security situation in Gbarnga and Zorzor prior to United Nations and non-governmental organization intervention in the area.

THOUSANDS DISPLACED AS NEW FIGHTING ERUPTS BETWEEN CONGOLESE


MILITIA AND RWANDAN REBEL GROUP


NEW YORK, 4 November (OCHA) -- Fighting that erupted on Friday between the Mayi-Mayi militia and a Rwandan rebel group in South Kivu Province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, has resulted in the displacement of thousands of civilians.

HUMANITARIAN EFFORT LAUNCHED FOR INDONESIA FLOOD VICTIMS


NEW YORK, 4 November (OCHA) -- The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has deployed a two-person team to the Langkat district of North Sumatra, Indonesia.  The team will help local authorities coordinate emergency response, assess needs and plan assistance in response to the flash floods that hit the area in recent days.

VAST HUMANITARIAN NEEDS FOUND IN SOUTH KIVU PROVINCE,


DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO


NEW YORK, 31 October (OCHA) -- A recent humanitarian needs assessment mission conducted jointly by several United Nations agencies has found widespread humanitarian needs in the region from Uvira to Fizi in the South Kivu Province of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
