The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and the United Nations human rights office released their annual report on the impact of armed conflict on civilians, finding that 10,453 civilians had lost their lives or suffered injuries in 2017.  While down 9 per cent from 2016, casualties were caused mainly by suicide bombings.

United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres arrived on Wednesday, 15 November, in Bonn, Germany, from Manila, Philippines, to participate in the twenty-third session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP23).

The United Nations Mission in Colombia said yesterday that nearly 7,000 FARC-EP members have arrived in zones where it will verify the laying down of arms.  General Javier Pérez Aquino, head of the United Nations Mission’s observers, said the decision to move into the zones despite limited logistics is very positive.
