SECURITY COUNCIL ADOPTS RESOLUTIONS REGARDING SECRETARY-GENERAL'S MISSION OF GOOD OFFICES IN CYPRUS AND UNFICYP MANDATE

The Security Council this afternoon unanimously adopted two resolutions, the first relating to the Secretary-General's mission of Good Offices in Cyprus, and the second extending the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) until 15 December.

SECURITY COUNCIL RECOMMENDS TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY THAT REPUBLIC OF KIRIBATI BE ADMITTED TO MEMBERSHIP OF UNITED NATIONS

The Security Council this afternoon recommended to the General Assembly that the Republic of Kiribati be admitted to membership of the United Nations. That admission would bring to 186 the Organization's total membership.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS UNMIBH MANDATE UNTIL 21 JUNE 2000

Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter, the Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH), which includes a civilian component -- the International Police Task Force (IPTF) -- until 21 June 2000.

Expressing its continued concern over the fragile situation in Sierra Leone, the Security Council today decided to extend the mandate of the United Nations Observer Mission in Sierra Leone (UNOMSIL) by six months, until 13 December 1999.
