Somalia Transition Will Not Go beyond 20 August 2012, Security Council Reiterates While Extending Mandate of Sanctions Monitoring Group

Reiterating that Somalia’s political transition will not be extended beyond 20 August 2012, the Security Council today extended the mandate of the group monitoring sanctions imposed on that country, explicitly targeting those who obstruct the process, while relaxing funding and equipment restrictions that could negatively affect the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Security Council Committee on Liberia Delists 17 Liberian Nationals from Its Travel Ban and Assets Freeze Lists

The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1521 (2003) concerning Liberia decided on 20 July 2012 to delist the following individuals from the list of individuals subject to the travel restrictions imposed by paragraph 4 (a) of resolution 1521 (2003) (the travel ban list) and the list of individuals and entities subject to the measures imposed by paragraph 1 of resolution 1532 (2004) (the assets freeze list).

Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee Amends Two Entries on Its Sanctions List

On 20 July 2012, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with strikethrough and underline in the entries below on its Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1989 (2011) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee Deletes One Individual from Its List

On 19 July 2012, the Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee decided to remove the name of the one individual below from the Al-Qaida Sanctions List after concluding its consideration of a delisting request submitted through the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), and after considering the Comprehensive Report of the Ombudsperson on this delisting request.

Security Council Renews Mandate of Syria Observer Mission for 30 Days, Unanimously Adopting Resolution 2059 (2012)

The Security Council today, just hours before the expiration of the 90-day mandate of the United Nations observer mission in Syria, agreed on a resolution to keep the mission in place for a final 30 days, while indicating further renewals will be possible only if it can be confirmed that the use of heavy weapons has ceased and a reduction in violence by all sides was sufficient to permit it to implement its mandate.
