Security Council: No name

The Security Council today extended for 13 months the mandate of the Panel of Experts appointed to its Sudan Sanctions Committee, expressing its intention to review it and take appropriate action regarding further extension within one year.

The Security Council today extended until 31 December 2014 the mandate of the United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB), also requesting the Secretary-General to prepare the Office’s transition and transfer of appropriate responsibilities to the United Nations country team by that date.

The Security Council punctuated its open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict today by reaffirming its commitment to the range of relevant measures it had adopted since 1999 to address that topic.

On 11 February 2014, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) enacted the amendmentsspecified with strikethrough and underline in the entries below to its List (the 1988 List) of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2082 (2012) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations:

On 6 February, at its second formal meeting, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic held an exchange of views on the implementation of the arms embargo imposed pursuant to paragraph 54 of the resolution with the representatives to the United Nations of the Central African Republic and its neighbouring States Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Sudan.

Serbia and Kosovo should build on the momentum created during 2013 towards the normalization of relations between them, speakers in the Security Council said today as the 15-member body held its quarterly debate on that situation.

Protection of civilians, rule of law, and the situation in Syria would be among the Security Council’s top priorities in February, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania said at a Headquarters press conference today.

The Security Council today renewed until 1 February 2015 the arms embargo and related sanctions imposed on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, also requesting the Secretary-General to extend the mandate of the Group of Experts monitoring the implementation of those measures.
