Setting out the range of situations to be addressed by the Security Council in October, the Permanent Representative of Argentina, whose delegation holds that body’s presidency for the month, this afternoon underlined the importance of making further progress on inclusiveness and transparency of the Council’s work.

At a summit presided over by United States President Barack Obama, opened by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and addressed by scores of national leaders, the Security Council this afternoon called on all States to cooperate urgently on preventing the international flow of terrorist fighters to and from conflict zones.

On 24 September 2014, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 751 (1992) and 1907 (2009) concerning Somalia and Eritrea approved the addition of the individual specified below to the list of individuals and entities subject to the travel ban, assets freeze and targeted arms embargo imposed by paragraphs 1, 3 and 7 of resolution 1844 (2008) and paragraph 43 of resolution 2093 (2013) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

During its informal consultations on 17 September 2014, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of Congo was briefed by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Ms. Leila Zerrougui.
