SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW MILITARY ADVISER

IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT

The Secretary-General has appointed Major General Patrick Cammaert as Military Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.  The appointment will become effective in November.

Major General Cammaert, a national of the Netherlands, will succeed Major General Tim Ford from Australia.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in Mongolia in the morning of Wednesday, 16 October.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who left New York on Saturday, arrived on Sunday evening in Hangzhou, an attractive and prosperous lakeside city in a silk-producing region south of Shanghai that is said to have captured nearly a third of the world market in silk ties.
